Agios Mattheos is a graphic village in the south part of Corfu. It is 23 km from the city. The settlement is built amphitheatrically with a fantastic view to the green countryside.The homonym beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag and is a pole of attraction for the visitors of the island. From Agios Mattheos you can visit the byzantine castle of Gardikios. It is dated from the 13th century and it's an octagonal fortress with parts of ancient buildings in its yard.
