The village of Asfaka is located 17 km from the city of Ioannina. It is built on the foothills of Mitsikeli and is distinguished by its traditional character. Many of its residents are descendants of people from Asia Minor, as after the catastrophe of 1922, many refugees settled in the area. Regarding the village¢s name, it is said to originate from the old local toponym where "asfakes," a type of shrub, were abundant.
