The village of Pogoniani is the main settlement of the Pogoni region. It is located in the northwest of the Ioannina prefecture, 86 km from the city of Ioannina. This remote area preserves the traditional Epirus architecture, with buildings that reflect the region¢s rich cultural heritage. Pogoniani is built at an altitude of 750 meters, near the picturesque town of Delfinaki, and features the famous Church of the Virgin Mary at the center of the village. The village has a rich history. During the Ottoman period, it served as the administrative center of the Avlona district and the seat of the bishopric until 1863.
