Agios Mattheos is a graphic village in the south part of Corfu. It is 23 km from the city. The settlement is built amphitheatrically with a fantastic view to the green countryside.The homonym beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag and is a pole of attraction for the visitors of the island. From Agios Mattheos you can visit the byzantine castle of Gardikios. It is dated from the 13th century and it¢s an octagonal fortress with parts of ancient buildings in its yard.
