About Kardamyla
Kardamyla is an area with a long and rich history. It is built on the same site as the ancient city of Kardamyla and is located on the northern side of the island, 28 km from Chios. Kardamyla, which is a municipality, consists of two settlements: Pano Chorio, the older settlement, built at the foot of a steep hill, and Marmaro, situated at the head of the eponymous bay. Kardamyla has a significant maritime history and is the birthplace of many Greek shipowners. Its seafaring heritage is showcased in the exhibits of the Naval Museum and the monument to the "Kardamyli Sailor," prominently located in Pano Chorio. The area is well-developed for tourism. The natural beauty blends harmoniously with traditional architecture, creating a picturesque setting that leaves a lasting impression on visitors. You can swim at Nágos Beach, considered one of the best on the island, at Yosona Bay, where according to legend Jason¢s ship, the Argo, landed on its way to Kolchida, and at Vlychada, known for its golden sandy beach. Restaurants, cafés, and hotels are available near all the beaches.
