The Castle of Parikia is located in the center of the town’s traditional settlement. It is one of the most beautiful and picturesque neighborhoods of Paros. Every visitor to the island should stroll through the narrow alleys of the castle and admire the harmonious coexistence of the past with the present, as well as the remarkable proximity of creations from different historical periods and architectural styles.
The hill of the Castle has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. The famous castle was built in the 13th century by the Venetians. For its construction, architectural parts from ancient temples and buildings were used as building materials.
While wandering through the castle district, visitors will also come across many small churches founded during the Byzantine era. Many of them — like the houses of the castle town — are incorporated into the castle walls, while others are built along the road.
Visit the chapel of Saint Anna, Panagia tou Stavrou, Saint Mark, and the Church of Saint Constantine, which stands out for its exceptional architecture and magnificent view. It is considered one of the finest churches in the Aegean.
