ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

Located in the historic village of Kastro, the Archaeological Museum of Siphnos is one of the island's most important cultural attractions. Housed in a traditional Cycladic building within the medieval settlement, the museum was restored by the Greek Ministry of Culture and officially opened to the public in 1986.

The museum presents a fascinating collection of archaeological discoveries from Sifnos, covering periods from the Early Iron Age to the Roman and Early Byzantine eras. Visitors can explore ancient sculptures, pottery, inscriptions, coins, and architectural fragments that reveal the island's rich historical and artistic heritage.

Among the most remarkable exhibits are the marble head of a Kouros from the 6th century BC, a marble Ionic capital, funerary steles from the Hellenistic period, and ceramic collections discovered in Kastro, the ancient capital of Sifnos.

The museum offers visitors a unique journey through the history of Sifnos and highlights the island's prosperity during ancient times, when it became famous for its gold and silver mines and its contribution to Cycladic civilization. Today, it remains an essential stop for travelers interested in archaeology, history, and Greek culture.
