Afetes
About Afetes
Afetes is a beautiful, quiet, and lush village in western Pelion, built at an altitude of 300 m. It occupies a privileged location along the main road connecting Volos with the villages of Pelion, just 27 km from Volos. The village houses are built amphitheatrically on two slopes, offering stunning views of the Pagasitikos Gulf. A stroll through the paved village square lets visitors enjoy the charm and serenity of the area. Don¢t miss the three traditional stone arch bridges, as well as a visit to the old village olive mill, which adds a touch of historical interest. According to local tradition, the village¢s name comes from the story that Heracles was left behind here, excluded from the Argonaut expedition because Jason considered him too heavy and cumbersome, which would have made the journey aboard the Argo difficult.
