About Mesochora

The village of Mesochora is located at an altitude of 800 meters, 50 km from Pyli. It is a beautiful traditional village worth visiting, where you can explore its picturesque streets. Administratively, it belongs to the Municipality of Pindos. The area has a long history, as archaeological findings at Loutses and the ruins of Palaiochori indicate that it has been inhabited since ancient times. One of the notable landmarks of the area is the stone arched Mesochora Bridge, also known as the Kokkos-Hatzipetros Bridge. Another point of interest is the famous Acheloos Valley Bridge, known as the "Kamara". This stone arched bridge was built in 1893-94 by the master builder Kostas Bekas from Epirus. The bridge is connected to significant events of the 1940-49 period, most notably the Battle of Mesochora on October 31, 1943, against the German forces. Architectural interest is also found in the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos (1886), which features a beautifully carved iconostasis.
